The Alabama State Employees’ Credit Union (ASE Credit Union) has announced that Ned McHenry, ASE’s Chief Executive Officer, will retire after 26 years of dedicated service to the credit union. McHenry’s last active day as CEO will be September 30.
Mr. McHenry assisted in leading ASE Credit Union through major changes, including opening the credit union’s community charter, which opened up membership from just Alabama’s State Employees to anyone; expanding the locations to include Wetumpka, Millbrook, Downtown Montgomery and Eastchase in Montgomery; and increasing ASE’s asset size by 220%.
“My affiliation started in 1989 when I became a Director on the Board, and later became the CEO in 1999. Throughout my tenure with this great credit union, I have enjoyed working with our members and being a part of the progress we have made together,” Mr. McHenry stated.
Jared Freeman has been named ASE’s new Chief Executive Officer, taking over those duties beginning October 1. Mr. Freeman graduated from the University of Mobile with both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Finance. He has received numerous credit union-related certificates, including earning his prerequisites as a Certified Lending Expert from California Southern University, and attended the University of Pennsylvania: The Wharton School’s Professional Development Program. Mr. Freeman was the Chief Operations Officer at Guardian Credit Union prior to being hired at ASE Credit Union.
“For 61 years, ASE Credit Union has provided excellent service to both its members and employees,” Freeman said. “I look forward to continuing that tradition of great member service, while bringing new ideas and perspectives to keep ASE on the path of success.”
“Jared brings a lot to the table. His skills and energy will be great assets in leading the credit union forward,” stated McHenry. “Our Board of Directors put a lot of thought and due diligence into choosing who would succeed me as CEO, and I believe they’ve found the right person in Jared.”
ASE Credit Union was established in 1954 and has been serving the banking needs of its members for 61 years. It currently operates through five conveniently located offices in Montgomery, Millbrook and Wetumpka, and is affiliated with over 5,000 shared branching service centers nationwide.
