ASE Timeline
1954
ASE Credit Union was established on February 26, 1954, in the basement of the Alabama State Capital to serve the financial needs of the state employees and their families. The credit union known as Alabama State Employees Credit Union was organized by 15 state employees with $265.00 in beginning shares.
1975
ASE leased the old Price Drug Store building on the corner of South Ripley and Adams Street in downtown Montgomery and moved the credit union from the Alabama State Capitol building.
1983
ASE purchased a small lot on North Jackson Street in Montgomery and built its first location.
1990
A corporate office was built in Colonial Park off Perry Hill Road at 1000 Interstate Park Drive, which also housed a branch and the branch operations for the credit union. The Jackson Street location continued to operate as the downtown branch.
2001
The downtown branch was relocated to the corner of Washington and Ripley Street which is within walking distance of the State Capitol and convenient for many state employees. The original downtown branch on Jackson Street was sold.
2001
ASE was granted a Community Charter for Montgomery County and eight surrounding counties to allow membership for all who live, work, attend school and/or worship in these counties. In addition, all participants of the Employees Retirement Systems of Alabama were allowed membership.
2003
ASE opened a branch in Wetumpka, Alabama in December to serve members in Elmore County.
2004
In July, ASE opened a branch in Millbrook, Alabama.
2015
In May of 2015, ASE purchased a fifth branch location in East Montgomery at the corner of Chantilly Parkway and East Chase Parkway to serve members living and working in East Montgomery.
2016
In December of 2016, ASE began opening retail branch locations housed in retail shopping centers. The first location was opened in Prattville, Alabama.
2017
In April of 2017, a retail branch location was opened in Clanton, Alabama in Chilton County. In July of 2017, a retail branch location was opened in Greenville, Alabama in Butler County.
2017
In November of 2017, an Operations Center was opened. This location houses all of our back office staff, which allowed employees to work more efficiently together to better assist members' needs.
2018
In May of 2018, ASE acquired Craig Credit Union in Selma, Alabama to serve members in Dallas County.
2019
